Novelist and poet, Dorothy Black Crow
Milepost 5, an art community and gallery in Northeast Portland, will be hosting a literary reading on Tuesday, July 21 featuring two award-winning Oregonian authors, novelist and poet
Dorothy Black Crow and poet
Jack Lorts.
The literary event, part of Milepost 5‘s Visiting Artists Series, will include a reading by Crow from her recently published mystery novel, The Handless Maiden. Lorts will also recite pieces from his poetry collection, Ephram Pratt, as well as other excerpts from his more recent work.
Crow is a former Literature professor at Oglala Lakota College and University of Michigan. She has received various awards and appraise for her literary work, including a previous Pushcart Prize nomination. Drawing from her own Native American history, Crow portrays her experience and knowledge on the reservation through her writings, may it be poetry or fiction.
Lorts’ poetry have appeared in several literary magazines including Arsenic Lobster, Fishtrap, High Desert Journal and Haggard & Halloo. He is presently the Mayor of Fossil, OR.
The literary reading is located on 850 NE 81st Ave at Art Haus Commons in Milepost 5. The event will begin at 7 p.m. For more information visit arthauspdx.org.
