Polaris: An Evening of Dance and Spoken Word
Friday, November 07, 2014
Expect to see the poems from Maya Angelou, Marie Howe, and Samuel Beckett elegantly transform into different dance vignettes during Word.
Director Robert Guitron, along with Kieraqmil Brinkley, Jocelyn Edelstein, Briley Neugebauer, and M’liss Stephenson, provide the original choreography that will be danced by a cast of 15.
A reworked version of Stranger, a dance piece from Polaris’ first show in 2002, will be brought to the stage during Word as well. The montage contains dances that brings up anxiety, vulnerability and compassion.
Guitron, director of Polaris Dance Theatre founded the dance company in 2002. Polaris focuses on creating visually innovative, emotionally charging, and thought-provoking contemporary dance performances. Throughout the last ten years, Polaris has created 291 new works and has entertained over 11,000 audience members of all ages. Polaris also provides affordable dance classes (10 one hour dance classes can be as low as $135) believing that dance is for every age, body shape, and ability.
Performances take place at Polaris Studio Theatre, 1501 SW Taylor (at the corner of 16th and Taylor), November 7-16. Note that most of the performances will include language that might be offensive to some audience members. Buy tickets, and see a list of which shows will be censored or uncensored, click here.
