Second City Alumni Star in Portland’5 ‘The Bicycle Men’

In a city filled with bicyclists, it seems apt for Portland’5 to present The Bicycle Men, featuring Second City alumni, June 5th - 7th.

This edgy, musical-comedy is the tale of the American, Steve, who has an unfortunate bicycle accident. As he waits for his bike to be repaired, he is protected by a cycling demigod called “L’homme du Bicyclette.” Yet the demigod isn’t too effective at protection because Steve is thrust into a series of unfortunate events causing him to believe he is in French purgatory.

After “beaucoup de” shenanigans, Steve reunites with his repaired bicycle. 

A happy ending is not in store for Steve, however. Steve is run over by a truck on his escape from France. 

Wait. All is not lost.

Steve is resurrected as a bicycle by L’homme du Bicyclette leaving Steve to ponder, “Am I happy or upset? I’m a bicyclette. Such a lesson I’ve learned today. What it is, though, I cannot say.”

With humor similar to Monty Python, The Bicycle Men is written by Second City alumnus Joe Liss and John Rubano. Second City is one of the most acclaimed comedy clubs and has been known as the “birthing place” of comedians such as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.

A great way to kick off the summer, this will be one event that Portlanders won’t want miss.
