The study is based on data collected from 2012, and uses three indicators to determine the rankings: renewable energy sales, cumulative annual energy efficiency savings, and incremental annual energy efficiency savings.
Renewable Energy Sales
Renewable energy sales are the total amount of renewable electricity sold to retail customers. PGE ranks No. 7 on this list with renewable electricity contributing 7.52 percent of their total sales in 2012. The top five leaders in this category are primarily located in regions with abundant renewable energy resources and/or with aggressive policy goals, according to the study.
Cumulative Annual Energy Efficiency Savings
Cumulative annual energy efficiency savings are savings from all energy efficiency programs active in a particular year. PGE's cumulative annual energy efficiency savings in 2012 were 10.25 percent of total sales, again placing them in the seventh ranking. This measure includes savings from projects that were implemented in prior years and were still delivering energy savings in 2012.
Incremental Annual Energy Efficiency Savings
Incremental annual energy efficiency savings are all energy savings from new participants in existing programs, and all participants in new programs in a particular year. PGE ranks No.3, with 1.47 percent of all sales attributed to energy efficiency savings in 2012.
Way to go, PGE!
