New Running Shorts Sport the Map of Portland

Monday, December 08, 2014

Portland start-up athletic wear company, 'Anew Athletic,' recently released their first item: map of PDX running shorts.

The idea for the shorts came to company founders Daniel Shepherd and Ari Kogan after a conversation about the lack of unique athletic clothes. They noticed that 'tight and bright' work out clothing and graphic 'bro tanks' were often seen in the gym, and they wanted to produce a one-of-a-kind, Portland themed piece as an alternative to the norm.

"We tossed around some different ideas for designs and ultimately came to the map of this awesome city because we thought Portlanders would immediately recognize and associate with it," said Shepherd. "Runners in PDX especially have a connection and familiarity with these streets."

Shepherd said the name Anew Athletic came from a want to be a break from the traditional athletic apparel purely built for function, and to instead add some personality and flair to work out gear. "These are meant to be fun!" Sheperd said.

Portlanders love to support their local businesses, and that's why Shepherd believes Portland is a great place to launch a product like the PDX map shorts.

"Portlanders are very prideful of their city. Between the people, the culture, the food and the beer, Portland is one kickass place to be," said Shepherd. "Without a doubt, the outdoor and active community is one of the best in the country. People just like to have fun here."
