On Tuesday the Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) hosted the third annual “Celebrating our Caring Community” luncheon. The money that was raised from this event went towards the Portland non-profit Jewish Family and Child Service (JFCS)

JFCS has been assisting some of the community’s most at risk citizens, including seniors and people with disabilities for nearly 68 years.

Around 360 Portlanders came out to help support this non-profit.

The event’s speaker, Stephen Elliott, is an author, filmmaker, and literary entrepreneur who founded The Rumpus, which is a well-respected online literary and culture magazine. Elliott shared his life story with the crowd, which was inspiring to many. He explained how a Jewish social service agency in Chicago saved his life.

Elliott is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Northwestern and recipient of the prestigious Stegner Fellowship at Stanford.
