Jacobsen Salt Co. Pairs With Local Favorites at New Tasting Room
Wednesday, September 17, 2014
It’s here that owner and master salt taster Ben Jacobsen has built a showcase for his line of coastal-grown artisanal salts, including a line of innovative flavors he created in collaboration with several local food and wine favorites. And several "Feasters" will get to know just how good it is at a kick-off party that Jacobsen is throwing with Williams-Sonoma Open Kitchen in honor of Portland's annual foodie celebration (don't even try to get a ticket, this event is invite-only).
The retail shop offers a variety of flake and infused salts, along with some Portland grown collaborations. Jacobsen has paired up with Stumptown Coffee Roasters in Stumptown Coffee Flake Salt, Grochau Cellars in an Oregon Pinot Noir Flake Salt and Pinot Blanc Flake Salt. Jacobsen also worked with Spielman’s Bagels to make Herb & Salt Bagel Chips, Xocolatl de Davíd to create a salted chocolate bar, and Dixon Soap Company for a sea-salt soap.
The retail shop and tasting room is where many a chef and home cook have discovered Jacobson’s good stuff. The tasting room stocks small-batch, urban-farmed honey from Portland’s Bee Local. And for parties,a salvaged oyster trailer in the converted warehouse serves as a unique gathering place for collaborative chef dinners.
Jacobsen Salt Co. is located at 602 SE Salmon Street on what recently has been “Portland’s Artisan Corridor” given its proximity to Salt & Straw’s Central Kitchen and Stumptown Coffee Roasters headquarters just blocks away.
