Zagat named Southeast Division St. Portland's best food area because it is home to places including Stumptown Coffee, Andy Ricker's Pok Pok, and produce-centric trattoria Ava Gene's. The area is "hot" because it attracts the city's top cooks, bakers and entertainers, according to Zagat.
The website also praises Southeast Division for its influx of newcomers including a new Salt & Straw ice cream parlor, Son of a Biscuit restaurant, Pizza Maria and Union Wine Co.
Southeast Division is a good place to eat, but it is also home to Portico, a shop that sells works by Oregon designers, the Foundation, a retro lingerie shop, and Bluebird Guesthouse, a B&B built in 1910 whose seven rooms are named after authors. It's these attractions that add to the area's coolness, according to Zagat.
Other neighborhoods that accompany Southeast Division on the list include:
- Providence's DownCity,
- New York city's Soho
- San Francisco's Nopa, (area north of the panhandle district)
- Washington, DC's The Navy Yards
- Seattle's Pioneer Square
- Houston's Montrose
- Portland's SE Division Street
- Indianapolis' Virginia Avenue in Fletcher Place
- Richmond's Church Hill
- Atlanta's Westside
