Ava Gene’s has been listed as one of the 21 best Italian restaurants in America by Thrillist, an online magazine dedicated to covering the best options for food, drink, and travel, and shopping in the United States.

Thrillist describes Ava Gene as offering “full-comfort with an upscale take on rustic Roman fare.” According to Ava Gene’s website, they are dedicated to using the best produce and meats sourced entirely from local Pacific Northwest producers and ranchers. Of all the available menu items, Thrillist highlights the restaurant’s homemade radiatore and cacatelli (two types of pasta) and recommends that readers order Ava Gene’s lamb chops with shoulder, tongue, and sunchokes.

Ava Gene’s first opened in December 2012 by Duane Sorenson, the same man responsible for Stumptown Coffee, The Woodsman Tavern, and Roman Candle, all of which are located on Southeast Division Street. Ava Gene's was recently highlighted by Zagat.com in an article listing Southeast Division Street as one of the 10 hottest food neighborhoods in the United States.

Ava Gene’s, 3377 SE Division St., 971-229-0571. Daily 5 pm-10 pm.
