Recently, the business website, WalletHub, conducted a study ranking Portland in the top ten metros with the lowest weight problem. This makes Portland one of the fittest metro areas to live in.
According to the study, Americans invest more than $210 billion a year into obesity related medical treatment, and one third of American adults are diagnosed with obesity.
The study also revealed that researchers estimate that treatment costs for obesity could rise by $66 billion a year by 2030.
These findings show that the physical well being of Americans is not the only thing at stake. There is clearly a negative impact on our wallets as the problem of obesity impacts personal financing and health insurance rates.
As a result, WalletHub decided to study one hundred metro areas throughout the United States in order to raise awareness.
Below is the map from WalletHub detailing the ranks of each metro area.
