Veterans Day is when we appreciate everything the men and women of the armed forces have sacrificed for our country. With that said, there are plenty of events going on around the city of Portland to honor veterans and their families. The events range from parades to 5K's to cemetery dedication's and more.

Ross Hollywood Chapel Veterans Day Parade

The 41st annual edition of the parade will kick off at 9:45 AM at the intersection 40th Avenue and NE Tillamook Street.​ A free USO-style show will follow. To learn more, read GoLocal's coverage of the parade.

Portland National Veterans Day Run

Mt. Tabor Park will host the Third Annual National Veterans Day Run in Portland. The 5K will begin at 8:11 AM and the 1-mile walk/run will start immediately following the start of the 5K.

Veterans Breakfast

The City Bible Church will host a free breakfast for veterans and first responders, along with their families and friends. Food will be served beginning at 9 AM.

Documentary Screening

The Returning Veterans Project, a Portland non-profit dedicated to assisting veterans return to civilian life, will host a special showing of “Frame by Frame” to commemorate Veteran’s Day. To learn more, check out GoLocal's coverage of the screening.

50th Vietnam War Commemoration

A ceremony to thank veterans of the Vietnam War era for their valor, sacrifice, and service to this nation will be held at the Willamette National Cemetery Flag/Assembly Area beginning at 1 PM.  The event will feature live patriotic music, the presentation of colors, a 21-gun salute, a flyover by the West Coast Ravens and the presentation of lapel pins/eagle pins to all Vietnam War era veterans in attendance.

Portland VA's Veterans Day Movie Muster

The Portland VA will host a screening of patriotic films to commemorate the day. The screening will kick off with Kelly’s Heroes at 11 AM, followed by Music Within and the Crimson Tide

Free Admission at the Oregon Zoo

The Oregon will be offering free admission for military veterans and active military personnel, as well as family members who accompany them to the zoo on Veteran's Day.

University of Portland Veterans Day Ceremony

The University of Portland hosts their annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Praying Hands Memorial on the university campus. Colonel Christian Rees, Chief of Staff, Land Component Command of the Oregon Army National Guard, will be the featured speaker.

Free Admission at the Oregon Historical Society
