Chefs Week PDX

Chefs Week PDX—a four-day feast featuring work from some of the most acclaimed regional talent, including chefs from Portland and up and down the West Coast—just wrapped up.

Featuring several dinners, the grand finale was the 25-course dinner for a sold-out group of guests at Departure on Sunday night featuring 33 chefs and thousands of plates.

Following each dinner chefs and guests mingled with the public at four free after parties held throughout the city.

First up was Thursday's night shin-dig at Jackknife Bar featuring all sorts of cocktails and a nice fruity punch from Union Wine. Friday night's after-party was held downtown at Stumptown Coffee and included awesome pizza slices from Roman Candle Baking Co. On Saturday it was Smokehouse 21's turn to provide bites at the very busy Elder Hall. And the final night's after party—featuring a mechanical bull—took place at Coopers Hall complete with sorts of neat nibbles from Urban Farmer's Matt Christianson and Chris Starkus.

Congrats to Departure Chef Gregory Gourdet, who is in the final of this week's "Top Chef Boston," and his team for gathering such an exceptional group of chefs—including his fellow Top Chef Boston finalist Mei Lin for pulling off a flawless weekend of foodie fun.

Well, there was one hiccup: seems that Vancouver, B.C. Chef Joel Watanabe—from Bao Bei—wasn't able to get some of his ingredients across the border for the big 25-course final dinner at Departure. After a last minute local dash with Laurelhurst Market chef Patrick McKee around Portland to source what he needed it seems someone might have "accidentally" swiped a few of those ingredients too.  That said, it was still one of the standout dishes of the night.
