Veterans Day is almost upon us.

As a way of honoring those who've served in the United States Armed Forces, several businesses and restaurants traditionally offer discounts for this particular day. In addition to all of the participating national chains, here are five Portland-relevant opportunities for veterans (and sometimes others!) to take advantage of both on and after the holiday.

Oregon Zoo
The Oregon Zoo will be offering free admission to both U.S. veterans and active military personnel who present any form of military ID, as well as accompanying family members (The offer also extends to family members of deployed military personnel). Additionally the Zoo store and all food and beverage locations will be offering a 10 percent discount to the groups listed above.

Oregon Zoo, 4001 SW Canyon Rd., 226-1561. Click HERE for more information.

Salty's On The Columbia
Every U.S. veteran will receive a free slice of Salty's famous White Chocolate Mousse cake and a $20 gift card for their next visit.

Salty's on The Columbia, 3839 N.E. Marine Dr., 288-4444. Click HERE for information on how to make a reservation.

Portland Japanese Garden
Not just for veterans – the Portland Japanese Garden will be offering free admission for everyone on Veterans Day from 10 am- 4 pm.

Portland Japanese Garden, 611 SW Kingston Ave., 223-1321. Click HERE for more information.

Legacy Health
Legacy Health will be offering free flu shots to everyone ages six months and older at a total of five different clinics located in Portland, Tualatin, Gresham, and Vancouver.

Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, 2801 N. Gantenbein; Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, 1015 NW 22nd Ave.; Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center, 19300 SW 65th Ave., Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center, 24800 SE Stark St., Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, 2211` NE 139th St. Click HERE for more information.

Second Annual Portland National Veterans Day Run
The November 16th run, to be held at Mt. Tabor to honor of those who have served in the arm forces, will be offering registering veterans and active duty personnel a reduced, eleven-dollar registration fee. Spouses and children ages 13-18 of veterans or active duty personnel will receive a five-dollar discount. All registered children ages twelve and under will be admitted free of charge, regardless of military status.

Second Annual Portland National Veterans Day Run, SE 60th Ave. and Salmon St. Click HERE for more information.
