Halloween 5K Race to Raise Money for Child Homelessness
Wednesday, October 21, 2015
The race will kick off at 8:30 AM on Halloween, and participants are encouraged to wear costumes. It is organized by the New City Initiative, an organization that aims to end the cycle of homelessness in Multnomah County.
According to the race’s website, more than 2,200 children experience homelessness each night in Portland and Multnomah County. Children who are homeless face greater challenges in education, employment and personal relationships. As of Tuesday night, the race had raised $3,503, more than 75 percent of its goal of $4,600.
Check-in for the event begins at 8:30 AM on October 31 at Mt. Tabor Park on SE 69th. Runners can check in or register until 9:15 AM. At 9:30 AM, the 5K run will begin, followed by a family one-mile walk beginning soon after.
There will also be an awards ceremony following the races, complete with awards for the top fundraiser, the fastest runners and the best costume.
