Handwoven for the Holidays
Tuesday, November 10, 2015
The auditorium will be filled with one-of-a-kind holiday gifts, each handmade by local artists, craftspeople and artisans. More than 25 artists will exhibit and sell their work, including scarves, garments and rugs.
The products for sale have all been spun, woven, braided, dyed, felted or switched by hand. Guests will not only have the chance to purchase these unique gifts, but see them made before their keys eyes. There will be weaving and spinning demonstrations throughout the sale’s three days.
The Portland Handweavers Guild was formally organized in September of 1945 and seeks to promote excellence in handweaving, spinning and relate arts.
They help to give weavers, spinners and other fiber artists a place to advance their skills through speakers, workshops, study groups and the use of the Guild’s textile library and other resources. They also work to educate the public about traditions and values of handwaving through annual exhibits and sales of members’ work, and through public demonstrations of weaving, spinning and other fiber arts.
The sale will be held from 5 PM to 9 PM on Friday, November 13, and from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday November 15 at the Multnomah Arts Center, located at 7688 SW Capitol Highway. For more information, visit the Portland Handweavers Guild website.
