Basic Rights Oregon presented "Oregonians Against Discrimination: Business Leaders Luncheon" on Thursday at the
Oregon Convention Center. The event was an opportunity for Oregon businesses and corporate opinion leaders take a public stand for fairness and equality.
The annual event brings together 500-plus business executives, community leaders and elected officials from across the state to consider the state of equality in Oregon and promote fairness in the workplace and under the law.
The program, presented by Basic Rights Oregon Education Fund, included keynote speaker Sam Sappington, a volunteer leader who lives as an out an proud gay in rural Oregon, and words from community members Rhonda Jantzen and Paul Southwick.
The luncheon also recognized Powell’s Books, Cupcake Jones, the Portland Timbers and Ninkasi Brewing for their outstanding business leadership in supporting gay and transgender equality.
