White Bird presented the long-awaited return of Dance Theatre of Harlem.

Last seen in Portland over 25 years ago, this legendary dance company performed for two nights. The show is lead by former Dance Theatre of Harlem principal star, Virginia Johnson, who brought to Portland an innovative program featuring four works by choreographers: Robert Garland, Christopher Huggins, Ulysses Dove and Darrel Grand Moultrie.

The opening night show was received by an appreciative audience that treated the company with the type of enthusiasm you might see at a arena rock concert not at a dance performance. Likewise, the company was received with much love and accolades at the opening night after-party that followed their performance.

The elegant after-party was held at Nel Centro for a select group of White Bird supporters and fans. White Bird was gracious, as always, with bouquets of flowers for the dancers that did not perform that particular night as well making sure that everyone had light bites to nosh on and wine to enjoy. Guests included White Bird's Paul King and Walter Jaffe, DTH cast and crew, Blind Pilot front-man Israel Nebeker, Jon Palanuk and Paige Powell.
