A reception was held on Thursday, May 7, at the Sentinel Hotel for President Barack Obama.

The Democratic National Committee hosted the early evening reception for President Obama in support the 2016 White House Victory Fund.

Attendees gathered outside the Sentinel Hotel around 4:30 pm with the President's arrival on stage closer to 7 pm.

Prior to his speaking President met with local Democratic fundraisers as well as posed for photos.

See slideshow of President Barack Obama's visit to Portland below:

Introductory remarks were made by Rep. Suzanne Bonamici and Rep. Earl Blumenauer who, in a statement about the President's presence in Portland, said: “I am pleased the President is coming to visit as we are entering into perhaps the final stages of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. Trade is critically important to Oregon. We want to make sure the TPP advances Oregon interests and Oregon values, and this visit is an important opportunity to highlight both as we seek the strongest possible agreement."

Then the President spoke about his love of Oregon, job creation and that the "most important job in a Democracy is not that of president...but that of citizen."  He concluded his remarks with brief handshakes along the rope line.

Although several hotels were said to be booked for his overnight stay, Pres. Obama stayed at the Hotel Monaco and departed for Beaverton and the Nike campus around 9 am on Friday, May 8.

Attendees at the May 7th reception included Tin House's Win McCormack, Morel Ink's Scott Ballo, Equity Foundation's Karol Collymore, developer Robert Ball, GoLocalPDX contributor Roy Jay and members of both Governor Kate Brown and Rep. Blumenauer's offices.

Interesting to note: there was an Alpaca therapy llama in the lobby prior to the reception (he was appearing at another function at the hotel) that leading to social media hashtags including #obamallama and #llamaandobama.
