Goonies

The now cult classic film, "Goonies," celebrated its 30th anniversary over the weekend with a plethora of events and activities in the town where much of the film was shot: Astoria, Oregon.

"Hey you guys!" was just one of the many rallying cries/greetings one encountered in Astoria between June 4-7.

The town was overflowing with "Goonies" lovers of all ages who found time in their busy lives to go back in time to a simplier, more "Chunk-filled" time.

Although sightings of the film stars were few and far between (there was word that "Chunk" had been sighted at several different locations and One Eyed Willy was seen protecting his gold in front of Vintage Hardware) it didn't seem to bother all those who gathered to visit this western Oregon town.

"The Goondocks" (aka Astoria Armory) was headquarters for the three-day movie love-fest and also the site for an "80's Con" that celebrated all things 1980s and "The Goonies."  Shot in Astoria bus tours showcased "The Goonies" ground zero—the Walsh home—as well as sights for movies including "Kindergarten Cop" and "Short Circuit."

Panel discussions by some of the folks associated with the film, including Curt Hanson who played "Mr. Perkins," had fans lining up all day outside of the Liberty Theater and Warren Field featured DJ's, dancing and "video-oke" dedicated to Cyndi Lauper and the Goon Squad that had every little girl dancing on the mainstage.

The weekend ended with a 5K run/walk "Truffle Shuffle" in nearby Canon Beach.

Goonies never say die..and they sure know how to party!
