Portland Cuddler Samantha Hess Appears Twice Tonight on National Television

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Samantha Hess cuddles Neil Patrick Harris

Oregonians can experience a double dose of professional cuddler Samantha Hess on national television tonight as she appears on the NBC variety show America’s Got Talent and a new Travel Channel series called Watt’s World. Her iconic Portland-based business Cuddle Up To Me generated global media attention since opening in late 2013. Samantha reached over 47 million people to date in more than 300 interviews.

When it airs during the summer, America’s Got Talent is the top-rated show on network television with an estimated audience of over 12 million people per episode. Samantha first appeared on the talent competition on May 26, earning three out of four votes from the judges and an invitation to return later in the season. Radio superstar Howard Stern denied Samantha his stamp of approval, but Spice Girl Mel B, supermodel Heidi Klum and comedian Howie Mandel sent the Portland cuddler to the next round. Producers flew her directly from Portland to New Jersey for her debut appearance, bypassing the normal audition process. She was discovered by AGT in an online interview late last year and taped her first appearance in February.

“Samantha is a talented media personality who has a brilliant future,” said former Cuddle Up To Me Marketing Director Chris Vetter, who coordinated both television appearances for Samantha. “I wanted her to appear on the show solely to build awareness of our company and never expected her to reach the next round. She defied expectations and charmed her way into a return appearance. She persuaded all four judges plus host Nick Cannon to join her in a cuddle pile on a red velvet couch. The sight of Samantha draped on top of the entire cast of the show is absolutely hysterical. Audiences loved it.”

America’s Got Talent Appearances Shrouded in Secrecy

AGT producers place severe restrictions on contestants that prevent them from revealing the details of their appearance or confirming whether they continue. “My lips are sealed,” said Hess. “Though I can reveal I will live blog the show via Twitter beginning at 5 p.m. Pacific time when AGT airs on the East Coast.”

“I knew Samantha cuddled with someone on the broadcast but I could not get her to confirm who it was despite weeks of begging,” said Vetter. “I even offered her dinner at her favorite restaurant if she would reveal the mystery cuddler but she guarded the details of her appearance like Fort Knox. Just minutes ago I checked the AGT website, however, and saw a picture of her lying on top of Neil Patrick Harris. Yes, Samantha Hess shows Doogie Howser the fine art of professional cuddling.”

“I have been watching the show since season one and I am a massive proponent of variety acts being seen by lots and lots of people,” said Harris. “I am uniquely able to appreciate what these people are doing, especially because it is live. Live stuff right there in front of you is exhilarating.”

Watt’s World Showcases Portland on the Travel Channel

Watt’s World is a new series on the Travel Channel following the global travels of professional journalist Nick Watt, a regular contributor to Nightline who hails from Scotland. The episode airing tonight is titled "Portland: Am I White & Cuddly Enough?" and showcases local personalities including Hess and multi-talented ringmaster Noah Mickens whose Wanderlust Circus is a staple of the Oregon entertainment scene.

Noah Mickens

“ABC producer Spencer Wilking contacted us last summer to inquire about the availability of Samantha Hess for a Travel Channel series spotlighting Portland,” said Vetter. “We greeted their request enthusiastically and helped them connect with other local performers including Wanderlust Circus and a regional rock star I am contractually forbidden from revealing the identity of before the episode airs. I think Portland audiences are going to be surprised and delighted by this special, which is essentially a love letter to our city. Nick Watt is an incredibly charismatic host. He and Samantha bonded strongly during their segment. I think he was extremely impressed with her though a lot of interviewers end up feeling that way. Samantha really makes an impression.”

“Nick Watts is brilliant and I am so honored to see Wanderlust Circus featured on national television,” said Mickens. “We work incredibly hard to offer a show with something for everyone. We keep alive the tradition of vaudeville but infuse it with a modern sensibility that electrifies audiences. We shot this special at the Alberta Rose Theater, one of our favorite venues in town.”

“I absolutely adore Noah Mickens and I am excited to appear with him,” said Hess. “I waited months to see this episode and I will be just as excited as viewers at home. I think Mayor Hales should give us an award for promoting local tourism.”

Nick Watt

“I actually forgot the special was on tonight,” said Cuddle Up To Me partner Derek McLain. “Samantha has appeared on so many television shows I have literally lost count. We taped this last year at her condominium in Washington County. She was promoting her book Touch: The Power of Human Connection and autographed a copy for Nick. He stayed about 45 minutes after we wrapped and entertained us with stories of his travels. I think his show is going to be a success. I saw him last week interviewing Arnold Schwarzenegger on late-night television and he was incredibly entertaining.”

"Oregonians who tune in tonight to either show will learn some new cuddling positions that can deepen the intimacy in their lives,” said Hess. “I want everyone to know about my business because we offer our clients encouragement, acceptance and healing. Human touch is powerful and anyone who wants to experience this firsthand just has to make an appointment.”

America’s Got Talent airs tonight on local NBC affiliate KGW at 8 p.m. Watt’s World airs this evening on the Travel Channel at 10:30 p.m. “I do not recall a local personality appearing twice on national television in a single night,” said Vetter. “It pains me to admit it but Samantha may be the most famous woman in town.”
