Portland Then/Now: Southwest College Street & Sixth Avenue.

THEN: For over fifty years The Cheerful Tortoise has been a place to hangout for Portland State University college students and faculty alike. A sponsor’s of Portland State University Athletics for as many years, the goal of this sports-friendly dive bar is to provide a Cheerful environment for everyone to enjoy. And that's exactly what this longtime downtown Portland watering hole has provided to countless students whether they be athletes or not. This particular photo, part of PSU just released Digital Archives, was snapped way back in February of 1964.

NOW:  Cheerful Tortoise continues to serve students with a full liquor bar, 18 draft beers, pool tables,  games such as Mega Touch, Golden Tee, Big Buck Hunter and all the Oregon lottery games. Other amenities include a 46-plus-inch televisions, three fireplaces and outdoor seating. They offer daily drink and beer specials and their infamous 1.99 breakfast they serve all day.
