Sixth Annual Fermentation Festival Comes to Portland

The Sixth Annual Portland Fermentation Festival celebrates this year with live, fermented food and drinks for the public. In an effort not to make Portlanders choose between Neil Young’s recently announced concert at University of Portland and the Sixth Annual Fermentation Festival, the fermentation celebration has been rescheduled to Tuesday, October 27 instead of Wednesday, October 7.

There will be tastings, recipe exchanges and plenty of samples from pickles, mead and cheese to miso, hard cider and kefir. Food and drinks will be provided by Nat's Hard Cider and Bingo Sandwiches.

Attendees can also ask fermentation enthusiasts and professionals for advice regarding all things fermentation.

Admission prices for the festival vary with time. The 7:30 or 8:30 p.m. Wednesday tasting sessions are $10. The 6:30 p.m. admission, which includes access to the 7:30 p.m. tastings and a live panel interview with experts regarding food and drink fermentation, is $20.

The event will be located on 721 NW 9th Ave. at Ecotrust in the Frank Jr. Conference Center.

Sayler’s Old Country Kitc

Challenge: One 72-ounce medium rare top sirloin steak must be consumed with all the trimmings: 2 pieces each of celery, carrots, olives, dill pickles, one regular salad, ten french fries or one baked potato and one slice of bread. To top it off you also must eat a dish of ice cream and drink a regular sized beverage. If you chew this all down in one hour you will get the dish free of charge and the honor of being “that guy/girl.”
