Portland-based dancer Sagarika Ramachandran will be performing an arangetram (a formal recital) on Saturday, August 8th, at the
Newmark Theatre .
Ramachandran has been training for 10 years in the ancient dance form Bharatanatyam - one of the oldest classical forms of Indian dance. The performance will be presented by the Anjali School of Dance and the Ramachandran family.
“Growing up in America, Bharatanatyam serves as a window into my Indian culture and Hindu mythology,” said Sagarika. “Despite the physical demands, dancing brings me joy and is emotionally very satisfying. I hope this arangetram is a step towards a lifelong journey of learning and devotion to this art form.”
The Newmark Theatre is located at 111 SW Broadway Avenue in Portland. Seating will begin at 4:30pm on Saturday, August 8th, and the recital begins promptly at 5pm.
