The Cranksgixing Treasure Hunt Food Drive is This Sunday

Friday, November 20, 2015

The annual “Cranksgiving” treasure hunt food drive will take place this Sunday, November 21.

The annual food drive, which is part scavenger hunt adventure and part charitable giving, benefits Outside In, a local non-profit organization that serves homeless youth in Portland.

In order to participate, teams will visit a list of stores and buy a list of items. Those items are then donated to Outside In. Organizers are asking attendees to bring along as many family and friends as possible, as they strive to beat Seattle, Washington’s turnout and defend the coveted “Top Banana Trophy.”

Teams should be made up of two to five people. Prizes will be awarded to each team and team member, as well as special prizes for the groups with the best costumes, the first ones to fulfill their list, and the biggest spenders of the day.

The event began in 2013, when more than 100 participants helped raise more than $1,500 in donations and supplies, all while having a great time. In 2014, 113 people turned out, raising more than $1,800 in donations and supplies.

The event kicks off at 1 PM at Velo Cult, located at 1969 Northeast 42nd Avenue. Each team member should bring $10 to buy items with, and bring extra cash if possible. For more information, visit the event’s website.
