Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington (YA), an arts and education program, is hosting Volcano Race PDX at Mt. Tabor Park on September 28, 2014.

Cary Clarke, Executive Director of YA, is extremely excited about the event’s social and communal benefits.

“Volcano Race PDX is a brand-new event this year that brings together and celebrates so many of the things Portlanders love: the arts, walking, running, public parks, the outdoors, Mt. Tabor, kids, food, drink, and a great cause,” said Clarke. “It's a 10K, 5K and Kids Fun Run that raises money for Young Audiences arts education programs.”

Young Audiences is the most comprehensive arts education nonprofit in the region, serving around 70,000 kids a year from nearly 200 schools.

Young Audiences has been serving in this community for 56 years now, and your participation will help YA continue to bring the performing, visual and media arts to children in the local community.

“Volcano Race PDX is a great way to explore Mt. Tabor, one of Portland's treasures…in a way that's fun, social and benefits the community,” noted Clarke.

“But don't be intimidated - you don't actually have to run up a mountain! It's easy, doable, open to all, affordable, totally family-friendly, and makes a huge difference in the lives of kids in our community.”

So whether you’re looking for an exciting 10k route, a stroll through the shade of the wooded 5k, or just wanting to have fun with the kids, Volcano Race PDX has it covered.

Complimentary post-race beer will be provided for adults, as well as snacks, and activities for all who sign up.

Participants can also set up a personalized fundraising page. Or if you’re feeling the team spirit, round up some friends, family, or co-workers to create teams (5 or more individuals) to run and raise money for area schools’ art programs.
