10-Year-Old Girl in Gresham Hit by Stray Bullet
Saturday, October 18, 2014
At approximately 9 a.m. Oct. 18, police were called to the intersection of Southeast 190th Avenue and Yamhill Street after receiving reports of shots fired in the area, according Ofc. Adam Baker of the Gresham Police Department.
A few minutes later, police learned a 10-year-old girl had been shot while inside her apartment. A bullet sliced through the wall of her home and struck her in the leg, Baker said.
Several buildings in the Rain Tree apartment complex, at 878 SE 187th Ave, were damaged.
The girl was taken by ambulance to Emanuel Hospital. Her condition was not known on Saturday afternoon, but police believed her wounds were non-life-threatening.
Police do not think the girl was the intended target of the shooting. The suspected shooter was described as a male wearing all dark clothing. He was seen running east on Southeast 190th Avenue near Yamhill Street, police said.
Anyone with information about the crime was asked to contact Gresham police.
