42-Year-Old Floridian Arrested in Portland for Luring 12-Year-Old on Instagram

The Portland Police Bureau arrested a 42-year-old Florida man on numerous sex charges, including engaging in sexual activity with a 12-year-old girl that he met on Instagram.

Central Precinct officers began an investigation into a report that Sergio Zambrano had engaged in sexual activity with the girl on January 25. Officers then worked with detectives assigned to the Child Abuse Team to locate and arrest Zambrano at his motel room at the Motel 6, located at 3104 Southeast Powell Boulevard.

Detectives learned that Zambrano met the 12-year-old female victim on Instagram roughly three weeks ago and that he lied about his age to the victim. After encouraging the victim to send him nude photos of herself and engaging in sexually-explicit chat, Zambrano flew to Portland from his home in Florida and spent the weekend with the victim, who told her parents she was spending the weekend at a friend's house.

After the victim's parents learned that she was not with a friend, they reached her on her cell phone and Zambrano took the 12-year-old girl home. The victim's parents then had her transported by ambulance to a Portland hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries then called the police.

Zambrano was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of rape, sodomy, sex abuse, unlawful sexual penetration, using a child in a display of sexual conduct, encouraging child sex abuse and luring a minor.
