The Oregon State Police arrested a California motorcyclist after he eluded California Highway Patrol and fled to Oregon.

The Oregon State Police received a call on Tuesday that Nicholas J. Abel, 24, of San Jose, California, was being pursued on northbound Interstate 5 towards Oregon and was about to enter the state at a high rate of speed.

A State Trooper attempted to pull over Abel but he did not comply, instead continuing to speed down I-5. At milepost 3, Abel began to drive the wrong way on I-5 and troopers lost sight of the motorcycle near the Siskiyou Summit.

Troopers eventually located Abel as he continued northbound on I-5 near milepost 16. He began driving recklessly at speeds of more than 100mph and the State Police terminated the pursuit as Abel exited the highway.

Abel was eventually found at a Shell gas station in Central Point, stealing gasoline from a pump that had been fueling a motorhome. Abel was arrested and was booked at the Jackson County Jail for multiple counts of attempt to elude and reckless driving. Charges in California are still pending.
