Four-Year-Old Shoots Finger with Handgun in Gresham

A four-year-old boy from Gresham accidently shot his finger with a 9mm handgun Saturday evening, according to the Gresham Police Department.

The boy, Deklinn Burian, accessed his grandfather’s holstered handgun from atop a safe in his home, according to detectives. Police believe Burian carried a stepstool to the safe, unholstered the gun, and fired one round.

The bullet struck Burian’s finger and passed through a mattress to lodge in the bedroom wall, the police said. No one else was harmed in the incident.

The family thought Burian had gone to his room for a toy, and was stunned by the gunshot, according to the police.

Detectives are investigating the incident, yet no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
