Gresham Police Issue DUII Warning

After a drunk driver slammed into a welcome sign in Gresham on Friday, Gresham Police warned drivers of increased DUII patrols during the holiday season.
Vanessa Chetney, 32, of Portland, was arrested and charged with DUII, reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief after slamming into a welcome sign in downtown Gresham. She was uninjured in the crash.
In response to the crash, Sgt. Jeff Cordes, supervisor of Gresham Police’s traffic unit, warned drivers not to get behind the wheel if they are intoxicated.
"This crash is a good reminder to not drive after drinking or using any intoxicant," Cordes said "Plan ahead to have a designated driver, call a cab, or have a friend come get you. Just don't get behind the wheel."
Cordes also warned residents and drivers that the police department planned to enhance DUII patrols during the holiday season, due to an increase in holiday parties.
"We want everyone to have a safe, happy and DUII-free holiday season," Cordes said.
