Marion County Firefighters “Fill the Boot” for Muscular Dystrophy
Tuesday, December 01, 2015
Last Friday, November 27, firefighters held their annual “Fill the Boot” event in front of Roth’s IGA in Salem. They raised more that $15,018 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
“These positive impacts increase our community's health and well-being; it allows Marion County Firefighters to connect with the communities we proudly serve,” said firefighter Jerrod Schuch of Marion County Fire District #1. “’Fill the Boot' also involves our family members and close friends all coming together with the community for a great cause."
MDA is the world's leading nonprofit health organization sponsoring research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases. The International Association of Firefighters is the largest national sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
"We are extremely grateful for all the support and time everyone involved donated toward this event. We couldn't have done it without them,” said firefighter Scott Wildfang and Ashley Yukich, MDA 'Fill the Boot' coordinators.
The IAFF has been fundraising with MDA for over 60 years. More than 300,000 members of the IAFF in the United States and Canada are pledged to saving lives, both as firefighters and paramedics and as the strongest campaigners for the worldwide research efforts of MDA to eradicate 40 neuromuscular diseases. The contributions of the firefighters also go towards MDA's summer camps for children, professional and public health education, and other programs.
