Multnomah County Awarded $4.4 M for Faulty Morrison Bridge Deck

Multnomah County will receive $4.4 million in damages from companies that installed a defective deck on the Morrison Bridge in 2011-2012.

A jury returned the verdict friday, finding all three defendants -- Conway Construction, ZellComp Inc., Strongwell Corp. and Hardesty & Hanover -- to have been negligent to the county. Still, the jury found the county was also negligent.

Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury said the county is pleased with the verdict.

"When contracting with professionals to do work for us, we have high expectations that they will perform the work they were contracted to do," Kafoury said. "This verdict is a great outcome for the citizens of Multnomah County."

Plans to design and install a new bridge deck are in the near future, but not yet finalized. Design is to begin this year, and a construction schedule is in the works.
