NEW: Estacada High School Reopens After Bomb Threat
Wednesday, October 28, 2015
Police received a call about a bomb inside the school at roughly 5:45 PM on Tuesday, with no specific information about the location of the bomb. There were parent/teacher conferences occurring in the school at the time the threat was received.
Estacada/Sandy Police searched the premises and consulted with bomb squad personnel and found nothing suspicious. As a safety precaution, the school district made the decision to cancel the remaining conferences for the evening and evacuate the building.
School officials also decided to delay the start of school today to allow for extra time for police and district staff to conduct another safety sweep of the school property before any children arrived for the school day. Nothing of concern was found on the school property and children have returned for a normal school day.
Ryan Carpenter, the school’s principal, told GoLocal that students were "happy and chipper” upon returning to school today.
“The atmosphere was actually very positive,” Carpenter said. “Students seemed to be very happy and chipper. There were law enforcement officers on hand to answer questions and let everyone know that things were safe, and there were also councilors available for any students that needed help.”
Police are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Sandy Police Department at (503) 489-2195 .Callers may remain anonymous.
