One Injured in East Portland Shooting

One person was injured in a shooting outside an East Portland hookah lounge early on Friday morning.

East Precinct Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance across from a hookah lounge at 12446 S.E. Powell Blvd.

Officers arrived on the scene and located a person with a serious gunshot injury. Two of the officers were able to aid the victim with a compress, staunching the flow of blood while medical teams responded.

Officers discovered that a large fight had broken out, which resulted in both the individual being shot and a vehicle being struck with gunfire as well.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and put in intensive care, but expected to survive.

Police believe the incident was gang related. The Gang Violence Response Team is conducting an investigation, which remains ongoing. No arrests have ben made and no suspect information is available.

Background Checks

Governor Kate Brown signed a bill into law in May that requires requiring background checks on private gun sales, according to Guns and Ammo Magazine.

"We have an obligation to protect Oregonians from gun violence," Brown said. "If we want to keep our kids, schools and communities safe, we must make it harder for dangerous people to get guns."
