Police Arrest Two Men, Recover Over $2.3 Million in Drugs

Oregon State Police arrested and charged Alberto Alejandro Martinez, 32, and Jose Joel Helguera Del Rio, 31, both of Washington, and charged them with multiple federal drug and firearm charges.

This comes after a State Trooper pulled them over for a traffic violation and observed a handgun in the vehicle's glovebox after a passenger opened it. The car was pulled over on US 97 near milepost 16.

Upon further search of the vehicle, a 2008 Dodge Caravan, officers found 25 pounds of cocaine and 44 points of methamphetamine. The estimated street values of the drugs is more than $2.3 million.

The Oregon State Police Patrol Division was assisted by Detectives from the Oregon State Police and Portland Police Bureau, the Sherman County Sheriff's Office, US Marshals Service and US Attorney's Office.
