Portland Animal Welfare Team (PAW Team) volunteers are distributing pet food, collars, leashes, warm pet coats and information about the non-profit's free veterinary services at four downtown Portland locations on Monday, Nov. 3, from 11am to 1pm.

PAW Team volunteers will fill their cars with supplies and hand them out along with information about upcoming free clinics to the homeless with pets at the following downtown Portland locations:

Transition Projects (650 NW Irving St.) at 11am, Pioneer Courthouse Square at 11:30am, the Salvation Army Female Emergency Shelter (11 NW 5th Ave.) at 12 noon, and Outside In (1132 SW 13th Ave.) at 12:45pm.

“We’re reaching out to people who don’t know about PAW Team yet but who might need our help to care for their pets,” explains Cindy Scheel, Executive Director of PAW Team.

“Our goal is to keep the pets of homeless people and those living in extreme poverty healthier and happier – and our community safer - through our free veterinary care."

Founded in 1999, PAW Team is dedicated to providing free veterinary care. The organization is fueled by veterinarians and veterinary techs offering their services at PAW Team monthly clinics, free of charge.

The nearly all-volunteer non-profit devotes most of its funds to medications and vaccines.

My previous owner says I naturally came by my name Lover Boy. My owner had to move, had another home lined up for me and at the last minute it fell through. I'm a nice old gent at 16yrs. Just looking for a retirement home and someone to spiff me up a little - I need a shave and a haircut. Haha. I haven't really been around young kids but I'm okay with everyone else so please only respectful kids 8 & up.

Gidget

Breed: Yorkshire Terrier/ Mix

Gender: Female

Age: Adult

Gretel is a tan and silver female Yorkshire Terrier mix. She is approximately 5 years old and weighs about 13.7 lbs. All you need is to look into her adorable little face, you will be as charmed by her as we are. Gretel would like a home where she would be an only pet because she doesn't want to share her people with other pets. If there are kids in the household we recommend that they are at least 12 years old. The shelter also recommends a private lesson with a trainer so a new owner can properly work with Gretel to teach her to walk calmly past other dogs. Gretel is not suited to apartment living as she does bark at noises.

Bacall

Breed: Domestic Shorthair/ Mix
Gender: Female
Age: Baby

What could be better, sweeter, or more fun than a kitten? Well two kittens of course! Take a look at my sibling Bogey. Either way, kittens are fun, feisty, and ready for adventure. You may be surprised at how much training and continued socialization a kitten needs to grow into a healthy adult cat. Your adoption counselor will have suggestions on teaching me how to be gentle with my claws and teeth and knowing what things are ok for me to scratch on. I am about 3 months of age. Ask about me today!

Baby Boy

Breed: Domestic Shorthair/ Mix
Gender: Male
Age: Adult

My name is Baby Boy and I'm in search of a new forever home. Unfortunately my owners gave me up to the shelter because they were moving and couldn't take me with them. I am a very sweet boy that has a chronic condition of upper respiratory infections, so I will need to be an indoor only kitty and may need medications for the rest of my life. I just get some runny eyes here and there. My owners stated that I do not get along well with other cats or dogs. So, I would appreciate being the only spoiled baby in your life. My new home should also not have any young children, as they are a little too much for me to handle and sometimes I can get a little overstimulated. I am just looking for a new quiet, relaxing home where I can just chill on the back of the couch and watch the birds outside the window. I am about 8 years old and ready to start a new chapter in my life. Hope I can be your purrfect fit!
