Portland Student Threatens to Burn Down High School

Friday, October 03, 2014

On Thursday afternoon Portland Police responded to threats by a student to burn down his school, De La Salle North Portland Catholic High.

The 15-year-old student returned to school after classes had been dismissed with a gas can and matches and went into the chemistry room where he indicated that he planned to light his notebook on fire, according to Police.

Officers arrived and contacted the 15-year-old student in the principal's office and took him into custody.

No fire was ever started and the student voluntarily went with the principal to the office, Police said.

Sergeant Pete Simpson said the student was taken to a Portland hospital for a mental health evaluation and the investigation is continuing.
