Task Force to Release School Safety Report Today
Wednesday, November 18, 2015
"This report is the result of countless hours of work with our partners in school safety," Roberts said. "With the recent shooting on the UCC campus in Roseburg and other incidents across our state and nation, it is clear we need to do everything we can to help make our schools safer."
The Task Force began meeting in August 2014 after the Oregon Stat Legislature passed House Bill 4087, which established the Task Force. The group was charged with finding strategies to more effectively respond to school violence and active-shooter situations.
The Task Force’s report is the result of studying data and hearing presentations from a variety of experts in school safety and related fields. The report will examine how school officials and law enforcement can work together to help prevent school shootings.
According to the report, partnerships with school leadership first responders, mental health professionals and the community are critical to overall school safety. The report’s recommendations include a statewide school-floorplan database, standardized terminology for emergencies, a tip line, a statewide threat assessment system, additional online resources and more.
The Task Force report will be presented tomorrow at 11 AM on the steps of the Oregon State Capital in Salem. The report will be available for a download as PDF by clicking here.
