Elementary Schools Put on Lock-In After Gresham Shooting

Thursday, September 04, 2014

Three elementary schools in the Reynolds School District were put on "lock-in" on Thursday after a man was shot in Gresham. Alder, Davis and Hartley Elementary Schools were placed under "lock-in" after a 25-year-old man was shot at SE 190th Avenue and SE Yamhill Street.

The three schools were placed on lock-in, as a cautionary measure, as police attempted to track the shooter, according the Reynolds School District spokesperson.

The suspect was described as a tall, thin black male possibly in his 30's with a shaved head and a light goatee. After the shooting, the suspect was seen running westbound into an apartment complex parking lot. The Gresham Police Department used a K9 to help track the shooter but they were unable to find him, according to Gresham Police.

The shooting victim, a 25-year-old black male from Portland, was conscious when police and medical personnel arrived. He was taken by ambulance to OHSU for treatment. His current status is unknown but his injuries appeared to be non-life threatening, police said.

The temporary school lock-in measure was lifted around 1.30 pm. All students and staff were unharmed. School bus service was rerouted.

Police asked witnesses or anyone with information that would help in the investigation to call 503-618-2719 or 1-888-989-3505.
