Portland was hit with two more shooting on Friday bringing the two night total to five. At 10:07 p.m., East Precinct police officers responded to the report of gunfire in the area of Southeast 87th Avenue and Knapp Street. As police were responding to the scene, callers reported hearing the sound of a car speeding away after the gunfire. Officers arrived in the area and located evidence of gunfire and damage to a parked car at Southeast 85th Avenue and Knapp Street.
At 10:23 p.m., a gunshot victim arrived at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center. The 20-year-old male was suffering from a non-life-threatening injury and reported that the shooting happened in the area of Southeast 122nd Avenue and Powell Boulevard at approximately 9:23 p.m. East Precinct and Transit Police Division officers are checking the area for a crime scene. At this point, it is not known if these two events are related to one another.
Wednesday night, Portland was the back drops to three different shootings. The shootings took place in North and Northeast Portland and police believe some of the gunfire incidents were tied to gang related issues.
The violence was across the city and at least one -- the home involved children.
At 11:30 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the St. Johns City Park on the report of gunfire heard in the area of the park.
Officers arrived in the area and were told that a home in the 9000 block of North Chicago Avenue was hit by bullets, but none of the occupants of the home were injured. Inside the home at the time of the shooting were an adult female and two children.
In addition police were told that the same home was fired upon in February 2016 in what is believed to be a gang-related shooting.
Northeast Shooting
At about 3 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of gunfire in the 4700 block of Northeast 62nd Avenue.
Police arrived in the area and contacted the 19-year-old male victim who told police that someone in an orange car fired multiple shots at him as he ran from his car into his home. The victim was not injured and no damage was located in the area. Evidence of gunfire was found in the street.
At 4:34 a.m., North Precinct responded to reports of gunfire in the area of the New Columbia community in the Portsmouth Neighborhood.
As officers were checking the area, a resident reported finding several bullet holes in his home in the 4300 block of North Willis Boulevard. Officers located evidence of gunfire in the street and numerous shots into the home. Nobody in the home was injured in the shooting.
Investigators have not determined if any of these shootings are related to one another.
After preliminary investigations at all three shooting scenes, the Gang Enforcement Team responded to assist and take over the investigation.
The Tactical Operations Division's Gang Enforcement Team (GET) and Gun Task Force (GTF) are continuing to investigate several incidents of gun violence citywide.
