Portland International Airport had been without year-round non-stop service to Mexico since 2008, but Volaris, an ultralow-cost airline based in Mexico, begins its twice weekly flights to Guadalajara, Jalisco in October. This route is Volaris's entry into the Pacific Northwest market, which the airline says encompasses 15 million people, 1 million of whom are originally from Mexico.
Round-trip flights depart Mondays and Saturdays beginning Oct. 6, originating from Guadalajara at 7:30 p.m. and arriving in Portland at 10:20 p.m.; departing from Portland at 11:50 p.m., arriving at Guadalajara at 6:20 a.m.
Meanwhile, Alaska Airlines begins seasonal service from Portland to Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos on Nov. 3 with flights continuing through April 26, 2015. Introductory fares start at $176 one way on tickets purchased now through Feb 10, 2015.
Alaska Airlines also plans to begin flights between Seattle and Cancún Nov. 6.
