Pipe bomb suspect Neal Allen Panschow arrested

Monday, December 22, 2014

Portland Police arrested a 43-year-old man suspected of throwing four pipe bombs from a car on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

The owner of the vehicle, and chief suspect in the incident, Neal Allen Panschow, was arrested the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 21 in the area of NE Sandy Blvd. and NE 79th Ave.

Officers developed a plan to arrest Panschow -- who was considered armed and dangerous -- after learning he was in the area. The Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit is combing the area for explosives, which may cause disruptions and traffic issues for some residents.

Tuesday, police tried to stop a silver Honda Civic after an explosive device was thrown from the car on SE Flavel Dr. and SE 45th Ave. The vehicle, which police suspect was driven by Panschow, fled the scene.

Officers searching the area found four pipe bombs, none of which were detonated. Officials believe Panschow recently led police on three pursuits in Clackamas and Multnomah Counties.
