Wheeler Scores a Big Endorsement—Nick Fish

Tuesday, March 08, 2016

If political endorsements decides the race for Mayor of Portland, then Ted Wheeler is probably the next Mayor. Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish announced that he is endorsing Oregon State Treasurer Ted Wheeler's candidacy for mayor.

Fish is the first sitting member of the Council to make an endorsement in the mayoral race.

BIG FISH

"Ted Wheeler is my choice for Portland’s next mayor," said Commissioner Fish. "Portland faces many challenges. Ted is the best prepared candidate to address them, combining progressive values, executive experience, and a record of strong, collaborative leadership. I am proud to endorse him and look forward to partnering with him to move our city forward."

Fish and Wheeler have worked together on a number of initiatives including the Multnomah County Task Force on Vital Aging when Wheeler was Multnomah County Chair, affordable housing and homelessness, and LGBTQ equality, according to a press release issued by the Wheeler campaign.

Fish's endorsement of Wheeler is another high profile win. Many of Wheeler's high profile endorsements came when he was running agianst sitting Mayor Charlie Hales and those endorsements include:  former Portland Mayors Vera Katz, Tom Potter, and Sam Adams. He is also endorsed by current Multnomah County Commissioners Diane McKeel and Judy Shiprack; Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill; former Multnomah County Commissioners Serena Cruz Walsh, Maria Rojo de Steffey, and Baraba Willer; and former Portland Auditor LaVonne Griffin-Valade.
