Oregon nursing homes have been hit with $225,000 in fines for violations of federal health and safety standards over the last four years, national data shows. The biggest fines are typically associated with serious deficiencies; these are violations of federal health and safety standards that cause harm, put a resident in immediate jeopardy of harm, or create a potential for harm, according to Charlene Harrington, a professor emeritus at the University of California at San Francisco School of Nursing and a national expert on long-term nursing care. In Oregon, a dozen nursing homes had serious deficiencies.

82 Percent of Cash in Pot Campaign Comes from Outside Oregon

Roughly 82 percent of the money funding a ballot measure to legalize recreational marijuana in Oregon is coming from sources outside the Beaver State. Campaign finance data shows that New Approach Oregon, the group behind ballot measure 91, has received only $278,662.60 (less than 18 percent of the campaign's $1.5 million war chest) from within the Beaver State. The rest of the campaign's money has come from wealthy individuals and organizations located outside of the state.
