Russell Wilson Remains Without A New Contract

Thursday, July 02, 2015

Russell Wilson has become arguably the most beloved athlete in the Pacific Northwest. In his 3 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks he has led the team to the Super Bowl twice. He’s never had any issues off of the field, he constantly deflects all of the attention off of him and onto his teammates and he visits the Seattle Children’s Hospital weekly. How could you not root for a guy like that?

Although it’s a very slight possibility, there’s still a possibility that he won’t be around much longer if the team can’t figure out a new contract for their franchise quarterback.

It seems as though Wilson wants to be one of the highest paid players in the NFL. The issue is the Seahawks don’t necessarily want to commit that much money to one player when they want to continue enhancing the rest of the roster. The Seahawks have other talented players on their roster who are also up for a new contract within the next few years. This has been an ongoing debate since the Seahawks’ season ended back in February.

In a recent interview with ESPN Wilson explained that he’s willing to play as hard for $1.5 million as he would for $25 million. That type of attitude is exactly why the Pacific Northwest needs a guy like this. He defies what the stereotype is of athletes. Most guys in the NFL of Wilson's caliber would be willing to sit out out practices and games until they receive a new contract, but not Wilson.

Even though he currently does not have a new contract, there’s no doubt that he’s going to make it very tough for Seattle to not pay up.
