Monday, March 23, 2020
Business Insider reported Sunday evening:
The disgraced Hollywood mogul has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, The Niagara Gazette reported on Sunday, citing "officials connected to the state prison system" in New York.
The outlet reported that Weinstein is in isolation at Wende Correctional Facility in western New York.
Officials told the local newspaper that Weinstein is one of two Wende inmates who have tested positive for the virus, which causes a disease known as COVID-19.
Deadline reported that a New York law enforcement official confirmed Weinstein has tested positive.
Latest Since Sentencing
Earlier in March, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault in New York.
Weinstein must also serve five years of post-release supervision and register as a sex offender.
As GoLocalProv reported in February, Weinstein was found guilty of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree.
The jury found him not guilty of the most serious charges against him — predatory sexual assault — which carries a sentence of up to life in jail.
Weinstein faced a maximum possible sentence of 29 years, after a jury determined that Weinstein forced a sex act on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006 and raped former actress Jessica Mann in 2013.
