Portlandia Nominated for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series Emmy
Friday, July 17, 2015
Portlandia debuted on January 21st, 2011 and just completed their 5th season. The show was created by Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein and Jonathan Krisel and is produced by Lorne Michaels. Armisen and Brownstein star in Portlandia as well. The show is currently set to begin production for season six, which will return to IFC in 2016.
Portlandia parodies what life in the Rose City is really like. Armisen and Brownstein’s characters travel around the city and experience everything that it has to offer. Although some of the show is scripted, much of it is also improvised.
Portlandia also received a second Emmy nomination for Outstanding Production Design For Variety, Nonfiction, Reality or Reality-Competition Program.
“We could not be prouder of the Portlandia team for their remarkable work this past season,” said Jennifer Caserta, IFC’s president. “We are extremely happy that Academy voters have recognized this unique comedy with multiple nominations for the fifth year in a row, and especially excited to be included in the newly created sketch series category.”
Portlandia has recently been renewed for 2 more seasons on IFC.
