Friday, January 02, 2015

Provenance Hotels, a Portland-based company that manages hotels including the Sentinel, Hotel deLuxe and Hotel Lucia, will cease charging its customers to use Wi-Fi internet, the company stated.

The changes will take place Jan. 1.

“Internet access is an essential amenity and we’ve long been focused on providing the fastest, most reliable service available to our guests,” Bashar Wali, President of Provenance Hotels, said.  “Making it available free of charge is the natural next step in our commitment to keeping travelers who stay at our hotels connected.”

Representatives from Provenance Hotels said the company has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in the past year, in Wi-Fi upgrades for the company’s hotels, which are also located in Washington and the Southeastern United States.

The hotels have installed fiber optic internet to increase bandwidth, speed and capacity, the company stated.

“Eliminating fees will be the icing on the cake when it comes to connectivity at our hotels,” Kate Buska, Provenance Hotels media director, said.
