LeBron James is arguably the best basketball player on the planet. He is also one of the most marketable. Not only has he been with Nike since before being drafted, he also has endorsement deals with companies such as McDonalds, Beats By Dre and Upper Deck. It now appears that the two-time NBA Champion wants to transition into the entertainment industry. Recently, James appeared in “Trainwreck” alongside Amy Schumer and Bill Hader. Although his role was minor, audiences were still impressed with his acting ability and comedic timing. Luckily audiences everywhere will be able to see more of LeBron on the big screen in the near future.
LeBron James announced on July 22nd that he signed a deal with Warner Brothers Entertainment. This deal includes projects for television, film and original digital content as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
As soon as this partnership was announced the rumors immediately began swirling that “Space Jam 2” was in the works. Last month Warner Brothers even filed new trademarks for “Space Jam.” Does this all point to a possible “Space Jam” sequel?
Recently James had a Q & A with his fans on Twitter. One fan asked him if he will be doing “Space Jam 2.” James’ response was simply, “Maybe…..We’ll have to wait and see.”
The original “Space Jam” was released on November 15th, 1996 and starred Michael Jordan. This film was a huge success at the box office. It grossed $90,418,342 in the United States and over $230,000,000 internationally. “Space Jam” is the highest grossing basketball movie of all time. Not only did Air Jordan appear in the movie, but so did fellow NBA stars Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing and Muggsy Bogues.
If “Space Jam 2” were to happen it seems as though LeBron James would be the logical choice. Not only is he one of the most successful basketball players to have ever come through the NBA, he is also one of the most popular. Perhaps we'll even see his friends and fellow NBA Superstars Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul in "Space Jam 2" as well. Only time will tell.
