Portland Parks Volunteer Work Party Returns

Friday, September 18, 2015

Looking for a way to help beautify Portland? The nonprofit Portland Parks Foundation (PPF) and Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) are teaming up again to organize a volunteer work party for the city’s parks. The event, Parke Diem, is a citywide grass-roots initiative to promote a healthier city.

Over the course of just two days, more than 1000 volunteers will show up at forty-five different sites across Portland, including community gardens, parks, natural areas, and sports fields with the common goal of renovating and maintaining city parks.

“It’s neighbors helping neighbors toward our shared goal of Healthy Parks, Healthy Portland,” says PP&R Director Mike Abbaté. “Parke Diem is an exciting way to make a real difference in the quality of life in our city.”

Portland Parks Commissioner Amanda Fritz will take part in what she considers to be a vital community effort again this year.

“Parks’ community gardens staff say that the volunteers at Parke Diem accomplish at least four months of work in just two days. I thank the Portland Parks Foundation for bringing so many volunteers together in one coordinated two-day effort,” says Fritz.

If you want to spend some time outdoors this fall, consider volunteering with Parke Diem.

Parke Diem will take place Friday, October 9 & Saturday, October 10 at varying times and locations. Click HERE for more information.
